Frequently Asked
Questions
Whether you're a first-time homebuyer, seasoned contractor, or a commercial building company, you may have some questions concerning the appliance purchasing process, or, in the case of industry veterans, the subtleties of working with The Appliance Center in particular.
Who is The Appliance Center?
The Appliance Center is a large distributor of luxury appliances. We are an independently owned and operated company specializing in built-in appliances, both imported and domestically manufactured products. We distribute over 50 brands of major appliances, and we are the largest supplier of appliances to the building industry in the Triangle Area.
Where is the Showroom located?
We have an extensive selection of major appliances at our showrooms located at:
3636 Shannon Road, Durham, NC 27707
Telephone: 919-403-2323
Fax: 919-403-1717
Email: sales@appliancecenter.biz
Should I call for an appointment?
We strongly encourage our clients to schedule an appointment for the best personalized experience. Walk-ins however, are still welcome, particularly if you know exactly what you want ahead of time (you can also order directly over the phone!) or are just planning on browsing.
What does your delivery service consist of?
All purchases at The Appliance Center are delivered as quickly as possible or as scheduled by the builder or remodeler. A company representative will call the day before the scheduled delivery date to make final arrangements and set a two-hour ETA for the delivery. Normal deliveries consist of removing free standing appliances (like non-built-in refrigerators, free standing ranges, washers and dryers) as well as installing new products in their place. All built-in appliances require the service of our Installation Specialist.
Do you provide installation?
The installation of built-in appliances is a very important part of the long term enjoyment of built-in equipment. Our network of installation professionals represents factory authorized and experienced technicians committed to doing the job the way it must be done for long term satisfaction and enjoyment. There is an extra charge for installation services which can be discussed with your Sales Specialist.
Do you install gas products?
The installation of gas products is of particular importance to The Appliance Center. We recommend that all gas products be attached by a certified licensed Gas Installer. The majority of our gas installations are completed by an Appliance Center Partner, and we can coordinate this service for you.
Do you ship outside the Triangle Area?
Some of our deliveries are made to destinations outside of the Triangle Area. Depending on the distance, these shipments are made by our delivery team or by common carrier. If a common carrier is required, it is important to have suitable arrangements in place at the destination location for offloading the freight (either a receiving dock or material handling) to ground level. Common carriers will not provide for uncrating and set or installation service. Please read our Return Policy for more details on damaged shipments.
What is your return policy?

What if my shipment is damaged?
All shipments are 100% insured. It is very important to inspect your product(s) thoroughly before accepting and signing for the merchandise. Even though the box and packaging may appear perfect, it is still possible that your products may be damaged. So, always check for external and internal damage before accepting delivery. If you notice damage to the product, refuse the package and note the damage on the Bill of Lading. Please call our Sales Specialist immediately, and we will issue a Return Authorization. If damage issues arise after signing for the merchandise, you are responsible for filing all claims with the carrier. Therefore, a thorough inspection of all packages is important before signing.
What if my merchandise is defective?
Products that are found to be defective at the time of delivery are to be refused and returned to The Appliance Center by our delivery team. Most products we sell include a Full Warranty for at least one year. If your item is defective after the first time of use, please contact The Appliance Center Service Coordinator for instructions (919-403-2323-add-EXT).
What if the product does not meet my expectations?
If you receive merchandise that does not meet your needs, please call your Sales Specialist within 48 hours of receipt. Please remember that shipping, handling and installation charges are not refundable, and all returns are subject to a minimum 25% restocking fee. Returned products must be in brand new condition with all packaging, product literature and blank warranty cards enclosed in the exact condition in which you received them. Products that have been installed or have been attempted to be installed are subject to a 50% restocking charge. Products that have experienced abnormal abuse cannot be returned. Products that have failed as a result of installation errors cannot be returned.
Can I cancel my order?
Orders may be cancelled until the items are shipped. Once they are shipped, you will need to refer to our return policy. Custom order products are non-cancellable, and these products are paid for in full upon placing the order and will be considered a final sale (non-refundable).
What is a Major Appliance Disposal Fee?
The North Carolina Department of Revenue collects a $3.00 per unit fee on selected major appliances. Originally, this fee was established for the eventual acquisition of the land fill areas for the dispositions of old appliances. This fee is charged on all purchases of selected major appliances for installation and use either within the state of NC or outside the state. This fee is over and above the state and county sales tax.
What payment options do you offer?
Cash, Check, Credit Card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover), Builder Commercial Credit Accounts (on Approved Credit).
How do I take advantage of manufacturer rebates?
Many of our suppliers offer factory rebates on selected products. These rebate offers appear on our website under the Rebates Tab. Click it, print it, fill it out and send it to the address on the form. Carefully follow all of the instructions on the form, and be sure to include a copy of your proof of purchase. If you have questions, please contact the Customer Service personnel appearing on the rebate forms.
Can you help me find what I'm looking for?
The Appliance Center has access to thousands of items, many of which are considered hard-to-find products. Our Sales Specialists are non-commission professionals that have years of experience in knowing where to look to find products that are unique. We really appreciate the challenge of finding new and different products. Often these new products become a part of our regular in-store product assortment. We are constantly adding new suppliers and product lines in order to remain the most diverse and responsive distributor of major appliances.
